Daddy's favorite cookie!

I don't understand it, and maybe it's just a quirk in my family, but most of the men prefer oatmeal raisin cookies to chocolate chip cookies. I know, I know, crazy, who would ever go for raisins over chocolate!

Oatmeal (raisin) cookies
(oh, and guess what, I got this recipe from a man!)

3/4 shortening
1 c packed brown sugar
1/2 c white sugar
1 egg
1/3 cup milk
1 tsp vanilla
3 c oats
1 c flour
1tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes

So, once again, in honor of our fathers here's their favorite cookie:

Look at those raisins! I actually like them, but if I'm offered a homemade oatmeal raisin cookie and a homemade chocolate chip cookie, the choco chip wins hands down.  My dad and my father-in-law and my husband, no doubt about it, would pick the oatmeal raisin cookie.

Mix the shortening, and sugars (I substituted 1/2 of the shortening with applesauce).

Add vanilla, milk, and egg.  Look I did it one handed!

Then the flour, salt, soda, and oatmeal.

These little dried bugs, as my daughter calls them, are optional.  But if your hubby loves 'em like mine does, you better add them.

Into the oven.

Done!

On the left -- with raisins.  In the middle and on the right -- without.

Happy Father's Day!

  2. I would rather have the oatmeal raisin cookie too and these look yummy, except for those without the raisins. LOL!
